The visits we see from Oliver are rarely a single ring. More often it is the contents of a jewellery box that has been closed for years, a coin tin from a parent’s house, or everything that came out of a property after a move or a death in the family. Everything you bring is separated on the counter as we go: karat gold in one group, sterling and plate in another, coins and bullion assessed against their metal content, and anything set with stones examined separately from its setting. Mixed items are not lumped together and paid at the lowest purity in the pile. You get a figure for each group and can sell all of it, some of it, or none of it.
